Family History
Martin Rose, born in 1870 in Csepe, Hungary, grew interested in blacksmithing and began apprenticeship at the age of thirteen. He quickly developed unusually high skills, eventually moving to Budapest to work for Jungfer, the premier shop. After becoming a Master, Martin opened a new shop which also rapidly achieved success.

Melvin M. Rose, Martin's youngest son, was born in Cleveland in 1919. His early years were spent in the home on E43rd Street which eventually became the company's office. Driven by his father's insistence on European education, Melvin was sent to Vienna to live with a cousin and attend school.

Bob traveled a different path than others at the firm. Melvin refused Bob's request to attend art school, believing that an engineering education would be a more practical choice. He suggested that Bob "could always take courses in art on his own, but would not do the same with engineering."
