Rose Iron Works
Muse with Violin Featured at Re-Opening of the Cleveland Museum of Art
June 19, 2009
The Cleveland Museum of Art celebrates the opening of its new East Wing on Saturday June 20, 2009 with its Summer Solstice Celebration. On display for the first time since 2005 will be the renowned Muse with Violin Screen designed by staff artist Paul Fehér and created by Rose Iron Works studio in 1930. The new 139,200 square foot East Wing, designed by architect Rafael Vinoly, houses CMA's renowned collections of 19th century European sculpture, painting, and decorative arts, modern and contemporary art and photography.
The RIW screen, currently on long term loan to CMA, shares an honored position in its new home opposite Victor Schreckengost's Jazz Bowl. Schreckengost was Melvin Rose's professor of design at The Cleveland Institute of Art and was his life long friend. Schreckengost died at the age of 101 in 2008.
